“Let’s Unlearn Sex Ed”
Sexual health is an extremely broad topic, and condensing that down into something interesting to read instead of a novel of facts and statistics is a dauntingly difficult task. In a nutshell, sexual health is the ability to embrace and safely enjoy our sex lives as a cornerstone of our physical and emotional health.
‘Sexuality’ itself includes much more than just physical sex, it is emotional connections to other human beings, and includes respecting and recognising the sexual rights and responsibilities we all share. The ‘health’ part includes making responsible, informed decisions to ensure your sexual wellbeing is maintained. This is different for everyone, but the broad scope usually covers: Consent, STD prevention and treatment, as well as unwanted pregnancies, and also involves discussing sexual health with partners and healthcare professionals.
There’s nothing sexier than safety, and as an adult, having sex comes with responsibilities if it is to be done in a safe, sane, and respectful manner. Obviously, I’m not a replacement for your healthcare professional, however this is an easy to ready and digestible guide that covers the basics of enjoying safe sex, keeping yourself safe, and learning the Sex Ed you certainly didn’t get in high school!
Consent
Consent is an agreement between participants to engage in sexual activity. Consent should be clearly and freely communicated. A verbal and affirmative expression of consent can help both you and your partner to understand and respect each other’s boundaries.
Condoms
