When it comes to sex toys and accessories it is really important to look after them properly, for hygiene and health reasons, as well as making sure they last and continue to provide you with delicious, orgasmic pleasure.

Cleaning.

  • Always use an Antibacterial Toy Cleaner. These have been specifically created for use on sex toys. They are strong enough to rid the toy of germs and bacteria, but are gentle enough to be used on products that will be used in intimate areas. They do not contain soaps, alcohol or harsh chemicals, and will maintain the pH balance of your body while also looking after the surface material of your toy.

  • Never use soap. As stated above it can not only create pH imbalances in your body, but it can also dry out the materials a lot of toys are made of, making them susceptible to cracks and splits, and less smooth surfaces.

  • It’s a good idea to clean your toy before each use as well as afterwards.

  • If your toy is made of Glass, Metal, or High Quality Silicone (like Tantus products), and have no power source, you can clean them in the dishwasher. The steam and heat is ideal for getting rid of all germs and bacteria.

  • If your toy is made of jelly-like material (see through and squishy), it can be porous and hold on to bacteria after a while, even with thorough cleaning. It is a good idea to replace these toys every six months or so.

Storing.

  • To keep your toy as dust-free and clean as possible between uses it is a good idea to store them separately in a Silk Bag or in the box it came in.

  • If your toys are made of jelly-like materials DO NOT store them in a place where they will touch other jelly-like toys. The two jellies react against each other and melt, creating a sticky, horrible mess and an unusable toy.

  • If your toy uses Batteries, take them out between uses. This stops power being unnecessarily drained, and also stops any damage if the battery happens to leak.

  • To avoid the disappointment of a rechargeable toy running out of power while in play, make sure you remember to charge it after each use. Continual charging should not damage the battery or longevity of your toy.

  • Store in a cool, dry place and keep away from heat and oils like Massage Oils. They can damage the surface of certain toy materials.

General Care Tips.

For the most part it is recommended to use a Water-based lubricant with sex toys. Silicone lubricant can damage the surface of silicone toys, as can oil based lubricants on other surfaces. Many companies who offer warranties will only recommend the use of water-based. If you use any other sort your warranty can be voided, even if the claim has nothing to do with anything lubricant related.
Only ever use the charger provided for your toy. Other chargers, although they may fit the socket, can have a lower or higher power supply and can cause damage to your battery.
Only use a recommended toy cleaner. As with the lubricant, if you use a non-recommended product it can not only damage your toy and possibly cause health issues, it will also void any warranties and claims.
Only ever use the toy for its intended purpose. For example, only ever use anal-specific toys (with a flared base) for anal play. Losing a toy inside there can be painful, damaging to your health, and a super embarrassing emergency room trip.
Many rechargeable toys have locks to stop them going off at unwanted, or embarrassing, moments. It is a good idea to utilize these features when travelling.
If you are using a toy for both vaginal and anal stimulation you must always use a condom for the anal play part and then remove/exchange it for vaginal. The bacteria in the anal cavity can be very dangerous to the health and well being of the vagina and must be kept separate at all times.
It is not always a good idea to share toys with friends, but if you do, make sure you use a condom with them and swap it over between people.
